The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) in Los Angeles has appointed Angela Herrera as its first Gen Z board member in any chapter. As of January 1, Herrera will join the board of directors of the Los Angeles chapter, becoming its youngest member at only 24 years of age.

As a Latina and a Gen Z, she is excited to serve as a voice for her generation and her community in the new upcoming year. This appointment is not only a personal achievement for Herrera but also a significant milestone for diversity and inclusion in the communications and press industry. “As a Latina and Gen Z representative, my role on the board underscores a commitment to fresh perspectives and leadership diversity,” she said.

In her role as a digital communication professional, she brings a wide range of expertise in earned media, press relations and social media outreach. Hererra is currently a PR and media manager at Team Friday, an agency based in Los Angeles. As part of this role, she has pitched stories to local media and focused on connecting with communities that are often forgotten. With her active membership in the Public Relations Society of America, she stays on top of industry trends and best practices.

Herrera has served on the committee and been a member of PRSA for two years. Additionally, she has contributed to public relations chapters across colleges and universities.

She has managed for most of her career online communications for organizations at both the federal and state levels, including positions in Washington D.C., where she worked closely with the White House and was part of the Florida Democratic Party during the 2020 presidential election.

Herrera told CALÓ NEWS that she put her name down in the system a few months ago for the PRSA board, but it would only be possible for her to be elected if everyone on the board and all the other members voted yes. “I’m so grateful that they voted me in. It’s definitely a really good feeling because when I joined, a lot of the things I was advocating for were bringing in one, more diverse voices but also bringing in more Gen Z and younger voices,” Herrera said. Her reason for applying was that she wasn't seeing as much representation as she would have liked in the industry.

As part of the PRSA board Herrera plans to incorporate more of the Gen Z voices into the organization. “A lot of young people can be intimidated by the profession that doesn’t want us. I want to change that narrative,” Herrera said.
