"American Fiction" and "The Color Purple" will be among the films competing Thursday evening for the top film honor at the 35th annual GLAAD Media Awards, recognizing works that honor fair, accurate and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues.
The films are both nominated for outstanding wide-release theatrical film, along with "All of Us Strangers," "Anyone But You," "The Blackening," "Bottoms," "It's a Wonderful Knife," "Knock at the Cabin," "Moving On" and "Shortcomings."
Winners of the GLAAD Media Awards -- which include honors for films, TV, music, video games comics, podcasts, journalism and blogs -- will be presented over two nights, beginning Thursday at a ceremony in Beverly Hills. The remainder of the honors will be presented May 11 in New York.
Thursday's ceremony will cover many of the top film and TV categories, including prizes for outstanding drama and comedy series.
Competing for the drama series prize are "9-1-1: Lone Star," "The Chi," "Chucky," "Doctor Who," "Good Trouble," "Grey's Anatomy," "Quantum Leap," "Riverdale," "Station 19" and "Yellowjackets."
Comedy series nominees are "And Just Like That ...," "Good Omens," "Harlem," "Harley Quinn," "Our Flag Means Death," "Sex Education," "Somebody Somewhere," "Ted Lasso," "What We Do In The Shadows" and "With Love."
During the ceremony, Oprah Winfrey will be presented with a Vanguard Award, honoring her "decades long commitment to allyship," and actress/producer Niecy Nash-Betts will receive the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, which honors a person who raises visibility for LGBTQ people and issues.
Kate Hudson and Chloe are both scheduled to perform during the event, which will be hosted by Wayne Brady. Among the celebrities expected to attend are Hannah Waddingham, Jason Sudekis, Matt Bomer, Melanie Lynskey, Priyanka, Sharon Stone, Billie Joe Armstrong and Sydney Sweeney.
