The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will be screening the film “Born In East L.A.,” directed, written and starring Cheech Marin. 

The screening is part of the museum’s Spotlights Series. 

It will feature a conversation with Cheech Marin, moderated by animator, writer, producer and director (The Book of Life, Maya and the Three) Jorge R. Gutierrez.

Rudy Robles, a Mexican American, gets mistaken for an undocumented immigrant during a raid and is deported to Mexico.  Rudy spends the film trying to make his way back across the border.

Written and directed by the film’s star, Cheech Marin, “Born in East L.A.” is a satirical comedy about Rudy Robles, a Mexican American who gets mistaken for an undocumented immigrant during a raid and is deported to Mexico. Rudy spends the film trying to make his way back across the border. 

“Born in East L.A.” is Marin’s directorial debut and first feature film without his longtime comedic partner, Tommy Chong. 

The film also features comedian Paul Rodriguez, Daniel Stern, and the late and beloved Lupe Ontiveros as Rudy’s mom.

The Academy Museum film programming is funded by the Richard Roth Foundation.

Saturday, September 20, at 7 p.m. at the David Geffen Theater. Tickets start at $5.
