Are masked heroes vigilantes? Will society allow them to intervene instead of depending on the police when the official law enforcers become corrupt?
These questions are at the center of “Daredevil: Born Again” and for Hector Ayala, a Puerto Rican who dresses up as White Tiger to protect his community.
Ayala ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time and caught in the crosshairs of a corrupt cop who is part of a larger police gang.
Kamar de los Reyes played the Puerto Rican superhero in the soft reboot of Marvel’s Daredevil series. De los Reyes unfortunately passed away in real life before the show was released.
But will there be a new White Tiger in the future? There might be another character in the series who could take the mantle.
After Ayala is charged for a crime he didn’t commit, Matt Murdock, who has now left behind his red suit and horns, tries to defend him in court.

Charlie Cox returns as Matt Murdock, a visually-impaired but hearing-enhanced New York lawyer who is trying to remove himself from his vigilante past and fight for justice, but this time in the courtroom.
Murdock is going by the book, or at least is trying to in the midst of a chaotic New York City that has just elected its new mayor and its none other than his nemesis, Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D’Onofrio, who is also reinventing himself away from his crime lord ways as Kingpin and pursuing a political future.
Neither of them believe that the other will change.
Fisk and Murdock journey through the right side of the law and we see them struggle and come to terms with who they really are.
In the series, Ayala tried to investigate a series of deaths that the police had been ignoring and we see Murdock and Fisk react to this in different ways.
Ayala’s niece Angela also pleads Murdock for help because no one seems to care.
They come from a working class neighborhood, an area that police tends to ignore or overpolice when a threat becomes bigger.
It is the desperation that leads Angela down a dangerous path and Murdock must decide which side to take.
There are times during “Daredevil: Born Again” when darkness seems to take hold of the city. It may seem that there is no hope. But for Daredevil that just means he may need to hope harder.
Maybe that could inspire us in the real world too.
“Daredevil: Born Again” is now available to stream on Disney Plus.
