Residente in Mexico City

(Residente)

Approximately 180,000 voices could be heard chanting “Palestina Libre” or Free Palestine at Residente’s show in Mexico City’s central plaza.

The third largest plaza in the world, the Zócalo can fit up to 280,000 people, according to the Mexican government.

During the free show on Saturday, Residente brought the Abed family, Palestinians who are refugees living in Mexico, on stage wit him.

That is when the crowd can be heard chanting the call to free Palestine. Residente wore a black long-sleeved shirt that also read Palestina Libre in red and green and a keffiyeh or Palestinian scarf.

Before Residente performed, cellist Sara Dowling Al Husseini played Palestinian songs.

“Everyone deserves equal opportunities, we need to support people to have these opportunities, access to education,” Residente said during his performance. “Thank you for being here, I love you, Mexico.”

Residente played songs from his former band Calle 13 as well as his newer compositions as a solo artist.

After the concert, Residente posted on X: “Mexico, what happened on Saturday was too powerful, special, charged with a supernatural energy. An ocean of people over layers of history buried beneath the Zócalo. Infinite thanks.”

According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, there have been 54,084 Palestinian deaths between October 7, 2023 and May 28, 2025, including 16,854 children.
