Dolores Huerta passed away just a few days before one of the most important midterm elections of our time. It's a shame she will not be here with us when results start to come in next Tuesday night. But we know she will be watching from the great beyond, cheering for us: ¡Si se puede!

From our editorial: "For our readership who may be unaware, we are a majority women-run newsroom. From our leadership team to our talented fellows, this small operation runs primarily on a Latina-fueled editorial force — where every single pitch, article, visual and reel that has a CALÓ News logo attached to it is debated, dissected, analyzed, verified and backed by mujeres who are tethered to the communities we cover."

Except, of course, for our dear copy editor Abelardo de la Peña Jr., whose last day is this Friday. We will miss him dearly. Our copy will never be as perfect, but we will do our best. And we can't forget our staff cartoonist, Lalo Alcaraz. They also feel the loss of the legendary yet humble Huerta, who fought all her life for women's rights, farmers' rights, LGBTQ+ rights and every right that people deserve to be free.

Our reporter Brenda wrote about her personal experience meeting the labor rights leader. From our Arizona bureau, Tucson mourned and celebrated her life.

May the force of Huerta's spirit power us through these elections.
