Matt Sedillo

In the weeks preceding

The military occupation

Of the city of Los Angeles

On the city streets

On burning asphalt

An eagle

Slay a snake

During the military

Occupation of the city of Los Angeles

El Tri flew over burning Waymo’s

Scooters and chipped pavement

Fell from overpasses

Leaf blowers repelled smoke

Back into the faces

Of agents of the state

Sometimes they were driven away

And that is historic

And no one can take that away

Sometimes people ran patrols

Sometimes they warned of the raids

Crowds gathered

Often times las senoras

Led the way

Sometimes the agents of the state

From horseback beat people with batons

Sometimes they snatched

People from their homes, their jobs

Sometimes they destroyed families

Sometimes they harassed

High school graduations

Sometimes they gassed children

They sent in the national guard

They sent in the marines

In times like these

Sometimes we light a match

In times like these

Sometimes we wave a flag

And the televised racists

And the stay at home fascists

Used it for a rallying cry

Evidence

A talking point

A political view

Same people who had no issue

With January 6th

Confederates

Or the flag bearing the face of one man

But I am through

I am through

Trying to make political points

Pointing out the hypocrisy

Of the so called conservative

Cause if this life has taught me anything

It is this

The people

Least likely to acknowledge their own hypocrisy

Are hypocrites

So instead

At this time

I will say this

I am a proud son of Los Angeles

And wherever I stand

Is Mexican land

Que viva Mexico
