During Hispanic Heritage Month this fall, the largest Mexican film festival outside of Mexico returns to Los Angeles.
The 18th annual Hola México Film Festival (HMFF) presented by Toyota will take place at The Montalban Theater with screenings being held at Regal Cinemas L.A. Live on Olympic Blvd. from September 25 to October 3, concluding with a closing night screening and a concert at LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes in downtown Los Angeles, followed by an award ceremony recognizing the audience’s choice for Best Film and Best Short Film.
According to organizers, film enthusiasts can expect to see new filmmakers, some familiar names and recognized actors as they experience a diverse selection of films that touch on all genres, featuring more than 20 films and 20 short films from its filmmaker-focused program, Tomorrow's Filmmakers Today, a nonprofit initiative dedicated to advancing the next generation of Latino filmmakers.
“18 years of celebrating Mexican cinema in LA is a strong statement about the community and their love for Mexican films,” said Samuel Douek, the founder and director of HMFF. “At the same time, we're happy to continue celebrating Mexico's cinematic achievements worldwide. Los Angeles and Mexico are connected in many ways, but cinema holds the strongest bond.”
Other features include selections from México Ahora, which highlights the best of Mexican films released in recent years, covering every genre; Documenta, which highlights notable non-fiction films made by Mexican filmmakers; El Otro México, which highlights the experiences of Mexicans rarely portrayed on screen and the Nocturno section, which offers offbeat stories and horror films.
For those who would like to participate in the film festival, applications for the 2026 TFT Fellowship are open until July 30 with 20 filmmakers being selected to participate in the program during the 2026 Hola Mexico Film Festival.
