As Los Angeles Unified School District students return to the classroom, Cedars-Sinai’s COACH for Kids mobile medical clinic is making vital stops across the city. The mobile unit is offering free back-to-school vaccines and health screenings for children and teens.
“These vaccines protect against preventable childhood illnesses—measles, chickenpox, pneumonia and meningitis,” said Arthur Cho, MD, medical director of COACH for Kids. “In the past, we saw high rates of these infections. Today, because of vaccines, we rarely see them. When children aren’t vaccinated, they’re at greater risk of getting sick, ending up in the hospital, or even worse.”
All children, from newborn to age 18, qualify for free physical exams, childhood vaccinations, flu shots, COVID-19 vaccinations and pediatric hearing and vision screenings.
They also qualify for pediatric laboratory testing and tuberculosis screenings. COACH for Kids is made up of a caring team of specialists, including a pediatric nurse practitioner, a family nurse practitioner, social workers, a community health worker, registered nurses and an outreach coordinator.
