The September 7 blood moon happened earlier during the day in Los Angeles, but the full moon was still a big participant in Astropical’s show on Sunday night.

Even Beto Montenegro from Rawayana asked for applause for the bright moon shining upon the Hollywood Bowl.

The supergroup Astropical, composed of members of Bomba Estereo and Rawayana, presented their debut album at the Hollywood Bowl, making a party on the stage and inviting all the attendees to celebrate their Colombian and Venezuelan sounds.

Montenegro and Liliana "Li" Saumet were the perfect party hosts, speaking in between songs in English and Spanish. José Castillo from Bomba Estéreo and Andrés "Fofo" Story and Orested Gomez from Rawayana also complemented the supergroup.

They performed songs from their album, which all include names inspired by each of the astrological signs like “Brinca (Acuario)” and “Siento (Virgo).” The party was in full mode by the time they played “Una Noche en Caracas (Tauro).”

But they also performed a few songs by their respective bands, like “Soy Yo,” from Bomba Estéreo and “Veneka” from Rawayana, where Montenegro and Saumet each sported their country’s flags proudly as capes as they danced and sang across the stage. Of course, Bomba Estéreo’s hits “Fuego” and “Ojitos Lindos” were also part of the night’s repertoire.

They also added to the bulla with a presentation of “El Tiburón” by Proyecto Uno and Saumet sang her rendition of “Como la flor” by the one and only Selena.

Macario Martinez

Their opening acts were Italian Dominican singer Yendri, who also came back to the stage to sing with Saumet and Macario Martinez, an indie singer and guitar player from Mexico City, who sang some of his songs through a red phone to give them a lofi sound.

Astropical’s performance was a Venezuelan and Colombian party, but we were all invited to dance.
