Mental Health Month starts in May and Mujeres De Maiz is reminding folks in the Los Angeles area that mental health looks different for everyone and is a priority to overall selfcare, despite your cultural background.
Mujeres De Maíz, an organization focused on improving the holistic and mental health of women in the L.A. area for nearly three decades, will be celebrating Mental Health Month by hosting a free LA CULTURA CURA: Wellness Fair on Saturday, May 9, at the East Los Angeles Civic Center. The event is scheduled to be held in Spanish.
At the fair, dozens of wellness professionals and organizations will offer workshops, presentations, wellness sessions and resources to support communities with mental health needs through cultural practices.
In a press release, Mujeres de Maíz stated, “Mental health is not something separate from who we are. It lives in our cultures, in our communities and in the ways we take care of ourselves.”
The event will also feature around 20 women of color artisans and vendors, specializing in wellness-related goods.
Presentations by Hood Herbalism, Latinx Parenting and Just Breathe Healing, among others, will take place at the event as well, including music and activities for children.
The event is part of TakeAction LA, a campaign in Los Angeles County featuring mental health awareness events throughout the month of May.
Although the fair is free, registration is recommended.
