STEM

The Spanish version of “Power On!” is now available. The goal of the graphic novel is to inspire youth to choose STEM career paths.

The English version was released in 2002 and this year Spanish-speaking parents and students can read “¡Conectados!” It’s a story told through the eyes of a diverse group of teenage friends who discover how computing can be personally and politically empowering. Their journey highlights why equitable access to computer science education is a necessity, not a privilege.

The graphic novel’s release comes at a time when, despite making up 17% of the U.S. workforce, Latino professionals hold only 8% of STEM jobs.

Authors Jean J. Ryoo and Jane Margolis are educational researchers. The book is translated in Spanish by Mariana Llanos and published by MIT Press.
